The system creates new replies from supplied stories, instructions, and language patterns. Because replies are generated, they can include inferences or errors that were never expressed by the person.
Digital legacy is stewardship
A legacy plan defines what is preserved, who controls it, how permission works, when access changes, and what should eventually be deleted. It may include recordings or documents that do not use generative AI at all.
Provenance reduces confusion
Recorded material, direct quotations, family annotations, and AI-generated interpretation should be visibly distinct. Users need to know whether they are seeing an original source or a newly generated response.
Design for reflection, not resurrection
A safer memorial experience begins with third-person reflection based on supplied memories and keeps the AI limitation visible. It should provide pause, reporting, deletion, and routes to human support when conversations become distressing.
