Conversation context
Recent messages help the model follow the current topic. This context is limited and may eventually be summarized or dropped. A longer chat does not automatically mean every detail remains available forever.
Long-term memory
A product may store selected facts, preferences, events, or summaries outside the immediate conversation. When a new message arrives, a retrieval system chooses memories that appear relevant and supplies them to the model.
Retrieval is not certainty
The system can choose the wrong memory, overlook an important one, or combine a stored fact with an unsupported inference. The interface should distinguish provided memory, profile instruction, and AI-generated interpretation.
Controls to expect
Users should be able to see what was remembered, correct it, remove it, pin important details, export their data, and delete the persona. Sensitive memory should never become an invisible profile with no correction path.
