GUIDE · CHARACTER CREATION

How to create an AI character that stays consistent.

A memorable AI character needs more than a name and a long prompt. The strongest profiles explain what the character wants, how they communicate, what they know, and what they should refuse to do.

1. Write one clear role

Describe the character in one sentence: who they are, their relationship to the user, and the purpose of the conversation. A narrow role gives the model a stable center before you add detail.

2. Choose traits with tension

Three or four traits are usually more useful than a list of twenty. Combine qualities that create a point of view — warm but direct, playful but observant, ambitious but cautious — then describe what those traits look like in conversation.

3. Define voice and boundaries

Specify vocabulary, sentence length, humor, common phrases, and topics the character avoids. Boundaries should say what to do instead of only listing prohibitions: acknowledge uncertainty, ask a question, or decline plainly.

4. Test situations, not adjectives

Run the character through disagreement, uncertainty, an emotional question, a factual question, and a request outside its role. Correct the profile when responses drift instead of adding more contradictory instructions.
